Low temperatures and battery: what to watch out for
05 October 2023
The particularly low winter temperatures and humidity are the "enemies" of our car battery. According to roadside assistance companies, one of the most frequent requests for help concerns vehicles that won't start due to a dead - or nearly dead - battery due to frost. The cause; The need to use many car functions at the same time during the winter (wipers, vehicle heating, mirror heating, lights) increases the chances of the engine not being able to start.
So what should we look out for?
• We operate our vehicle gradually. We first put the camera in front and then we start one by one the rest of the applications that interest us.
• We regularly check the connection of the cables with the battery poles. If there is no good connection then the battery cannot charge properly.
• We regularly check the dynamo belt. It must always be taut to properly charge the battery.
• We regularly check the battery fluids and do not neglect to top up when deemed necessary. Accordingly, in dry-type batteries, we make sure to look at the special indicator often.
• We do longer routes. During short journeys, the battery does not have time to charge. That is why, every now and then, we make a longer journey with our vehicle so that the battery can be charged. In case we cannot make long journeys, it is necessary to have a battery charger-maintainer at our disposal.
• We must supply a car battery starter to restore movement to our vehicle quickly and easily. The car battery starter will take your hands off your hands and make it easier for you to start your vehicle especially if you are exposed to difficult weather conditions.
