In Start & Stop cars, for the sake of economy and low emissions, the engine is turned off every time the vehicle stops. The above in an urban route with low speeds and many traffic lights and/or intersections translates into huge demands on the starter and especially the battery, demands that prohibit the use of conventional batteries. Note also that this increased strain on the battery does not happen rarely, but on a daily basis.


2 battery technologies are being installed that can support this use, EFBs and the clearly superior AGM.

- The EFB technology battery is a next generation of "standard" car battery, with improvements that provide increased resistance to the stress of Start-Stop, but do not support energy saving functions such as braking.

- On the contrary, AGM batteries are the latest technology to cover the increased demands and stresses of start-stop systems and extra energy storage.

As a result, they have a completely different design and structure. The electrolyte has been replaced by an absorbent layer of acid glass (Absorbent Glass Mat) which charges much faster, has at least three times the life and a much increased capacity for the size it occupies.

Thanks to the above, the weight is kept - in proportion to the capacity - at very low levels, making their use almost one-way in sport-oriented models. At the same time, due to the solid nature of the electrolyte, it does not leak, does not need maintenance and exhibits incomparably better operating characteristics, compared to "standard" batteries.
