Spring engine check: what should you check
05 October 2023
Has your motorcycle been sitting idle all winter? If you're getting ready to take her on some great spring rides, it's a good idea to do a basic check first to ensure she's riding smoothly and safely. Read on for the key points to check.
Fuel
According to proper storage, before storing your engine for the winter, you should have drained it of fuel. When fuel is left for a long time without being "consumed", it causes significant damage to the tank, fuel system, filters, etc. Even without wear and tear, however, be sure to fill up your engine with fresh fuel before starting your spring rides.
Oil and oil filter
Did you change the oil and oil filter before storing your engine for the winter? If not, you need to do it now. The change in temperature and idle time affect both the oil and the oil filter. To avoid wear and tear, change them before putting the machine back into operation.
Tires
Low temperatures, humidity, inactivity and improper storage tend to affect the air in them. Check them thoroughly in your garage, before you hit the road, to prevent any damage in time.
Battery
Maintaining a motorcycle battery during the winter is especially important. One of the main reasons that batteries wear out and stop working sooner than expected is the winter season. This is because the motorcycle battery needs to be recharged when not in use and every time you ride your bike, it charges. But when your battery is left inactive for a long time, it slowly loses its energy.
